MacDowell Month

The Kentucky Center's Whitney Hall

Celebrate MacDowell Month!

During the month of February, Alpha Chi Omega celebrates MacDowell Month. Named for the MacDowell artists' colony in New Hampshire (Alpha Chi Omega’s first philanthropic project), this month also honors our founders’ heritage as musicians. During MacDowell Month, our members are encouraged to attend exhibitions, see plays, take in concerts, and otherwise celebrate and patronize the arts (www.alphachiomega.org). To learn more about the oldest artists' colony in the United States, visit their website at www.macdowellcolony.org.

Below are some suggestions of ways you can support the arts during the month of February right here in Louisville.

- Take in a play at Actors Theatre of Louisville. For tickets/showtimes, visit www.actorstheatre.org.

- The Kentucky Center offers a variety of performances from concerts to plays. For tickets/showtimes, www.kentuckycenter.org.

- Interested in supporting the younger arts community? The Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) will be offering dance performances to the public February 22-24. For more information and to order tickets, visit their website here.

- For a more hands-on experience, check out one of several places in town where you can create your own art. Uptown Art offers 2- and 3-hour painting classes. They provide all the materials needed to create your own masterpiece and you can purchase beer or wine at the bar during your class.
Louisville Glassworks offers a Walk-in Workshop, giving guests the opportunity to create their own glass art. There are several options of projects to choose from at all price levels.

We would love to feature some stories on our blog of how our members support the local arts. If you do something this month that celebrates the arts, please send an email to zetaetazeta.axo@gmail.com to tell us about it.
