With the holidays just around the corner, I thought this was a great message and reminder for all of our wonderful sisters to enjoy!

Don’t forget, Lyre Ladies meets tomorrow at 5:30. We will be gathering at 60 West Martini Bar and Bistro in St. Matthews. Hope to see you there!

Thank you!

A HUGE thank-you once again to all of the women who attended our Founder’s Day event at Volare last Tuesday. Sisters and guests had a great time enjoying cocktails and appetizers while supporting The Center for Women and Families. Many of us also had the opportunity to meet Jane Short, our Province Alumnae Chair, who drove up from Nashville for the event.
Our special guest speaker for the evening was Courtney DiShebear, a legal advocate and community educator from the Center for Women and Families. Courtney provided the group with important facts and statistics about domestic abuse. One in four women will be a victim of at least one type of abuse in her lifetime – this means each one of us has had an experience with domestic and/or sexual abuse, whether through a personal experience or through someone you know. We also learned about the wide array of services that the Center offers to victims of abuse. I am proud to announce that our chapter raised $250 for the Center for Women and Families – way to go ladies!

Happy Founder's Day!!!

Alpha Chi Omega

"Together let us seek the heights."

Alpha Chi Omega was originally founded as a musical sorority at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana on October 15, 1885. It was here that our founding sisters: Anna Allen, Olive Burnett, Bertha Deniston, Amy DuBois, Nellie Gamble, Bessie Grooms and Estelle Leonard, began Alpha Chi Omega. Our founders chose the name Alpha Chi Omega to show that we would forever be the first and last musical sorority. Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and Omega is the last, signifying the meaning behind the name. A few years after our founding, the requirement to be part of the school of music was dropped, but an appreciation of the fine arts has continued as part of our heritage.

Wishing all of my sisters a truly wonderful Founder’s Day!

Recap: Lunch Bunch & Lyre Ladies

Lunch Bunch and Lyre Ladies had their first meetups this month. We had a great turnout for both groups and look forward to the October gatherings.

Lunch Bunch met at the Bristol East on Tuesday, 9/4. Everyone had a wonderful time visiting with one another and the food was great as always (several of us highly recommend the new quesadilla on the menu!).
(L-R) Celeste, Kathy, Glenda, Vicki, Nancy, and Charlotte

Lyre Ladies met for drinks and appetizers at Harvest Restaurant in the NuLu District on Tuesday, 9/11. This was a great opportunity to meet some younger alums who work downtown and check out an area of the city that has experienced tremendous growth and revitalization over the last couple years.
Merleta, Jeannie, Glenda, Celeste, Nicole, and Nicole (not pictured - Amy)

Thanks again to everyone who was able to make it. Our October Lunch Bunch will be meeting at Napa River Grill in Westport Village on the first Tuesday of the month (10/2). The next Lyre Ladies will meet at La Bodega Tapas Bar in Deer Park (Bardstown Road) on Thursday, 10/11 at 5:30.

September Meeting and Dues

Finally - it feels like fall is in the air!

Our first meeting/White Elephant Sale is one week from today. Remember, our meeting will be held at Vicki Warren's home and we will start at 7:00. The address and directions are at the bottom of the post. If there is anyone who needs a ride to the meeting, please let me know by Sunday, September 9 so I can make arrangements for you.

This year, we are asking everyone to fill out a Membership Form to send in with your chapter dues. This will help us in maintaining membership records and updating contact information. Click here to print the form and complete. You can either bring this with you to the meeting or mail it with your dues to our treasurer, Linda Pursell. I will have copies of the form with me at the meeting as well.

One last thing - congratulations to Emma Brown, our ARIC, for being selected as one of the young alumnae to assist the new UNC Wilmington Colony with their Fall 2012 Recruitment! To read more about the new colony, visit Alpha Chi's website.

LITB,
Celeste
